The 19th Annual South American Model United Nations (SAMUN) took place this year from Saturday, November 8, 2008 to Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at the Colegio Internacional de Caracas (CIC) and the CorpGroup Foundation conference center . Approximately 275 secondary-level students plus directors attended from 18 schools in Latin America and the Caribbean. In terms of origin, the student delegates typically hail from 30-40 different countries representing most regions of the world. SAMUN is an officially-affiliated program of The Hague International Model U.N., otherwise known as the THIMUN Organization. This year’s conference was very ably led and directed by Secretary-General Deborah Van Roy and General Assembly President Mariela Civale, supported by an excellent executive officer team drawn from CIC as well as long-standing partner schools. Next year we will be celebrating SAMUN’s 20th anniversary, recognizing this conference’s stature as one of the international schools community’s oldest, long-standing region MUN conferences worldwide. CIC and its hosted MUN programs have literally trained and prepared for MUN thousands of secondary school students in the Latin American and Caribbean over the past two decades, an accomplishment for which the school is extremely proud.
** Next conference date & venue: This coming academic year’s SAMUN conference will be held here at CIC and the CorpGroup Foundation conference center from Saturday November 14 through Tuesday November 17, 2009.
