JMUN 2007 Kicks Off With The Opening Ceremony

JMUN is finally here, and the stress begins! As the opening ceremony began, Ms. Natalie Jeffers stepped up to the podium to welcome students and the invited guests to JMUN 2007.  She highlighted the presence of our guests by saying “They felt that JMUN is an important occasion….not only a SIMULATION….but an event of REAL VALUE.”

Ambassadors from around the globe, Samson A. A. Adeniran from Nigeria, Martin Tore Bjorndal from Norway, Thami X N Ngwevela from South Africa, and William Brownfield from the United States, all honored us with their attendance.

Other honored guests also attended the Opening Ceremony. They included Nicholas Escalante Barrett, Mexican Minister Adviser, Nieves Callender, Trinidad and Tobago Counsellor, Isadora Petropoulou, Deputy Chief of Mission from Greece, and Ali Sucipto, Third Secretary from Indonesia and Erie Bowono, Chargé d’Affairs also from Indonesia.

Now that JMUN has started, is the fun really beginning? Yes, the delegates believe so!

Year after year the JMUN population is growing to become a generation of students that could one day change the world. As Axel Keirmaier, a Grade 11 student at CIC, said: “JMUN not only unifies students and political bodies, it makes a new generation TRY!” As the world develops so do the young minds of the children that live in it.

At the opening ceremony Ms. Patricia Duran, Deputy Secretary-General quoted Antoine de Saint-Exupéry: “A goal without a plan is just a wish.”

The keynote speaker, Mrs Elbey Borrero de McKenna, of the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, personifies St. Exupéry’s idea. She told the audience that she has accomplished her wish of becoming a part of the diplomatic corps that makes a difference in the world.

Welcome to JMUN 2007 and be ready to witness a whole new experience that will make this world a better place!
