Get To Know Your JMUN Leaders

Name: Rachel Callender
Age: 16
Position: Secretary-General
MUN Experience:

“I participated as a delegate in JMUN conferences from 6th through 8th grade; in 9th grade I was the chairperson of the ECOSOC committee; in 10th grade I was the chairperson of the Human Rights committee and now in 11th grade I have been promoted to Secretary General. However, my MUN experience goes further than JMUN. In 9th and 10th grade I participated as administrative staff in the South American Model United Nations also hosted by Colegio Internacional de Caracas. Also in 10th grade, I travelled to The Hague to participate as a delegate in The Hague International Model United Nations Conference which proved to be the most challenging but most enjoyable MUN I have ever participated in as a delegate. Along with 3000 other students from all corners of the globe, we were given the opportunity to debate pressing world issues and diplomatically discuss, refute and agree on solutions to these issues in the form of a formal resolution on an international scale.”

Advice to delegates: Rachel strongly recommends that delegates take this event seriously as it an engaging and rewarding experience.

Name: Patricia Duran
Age: 16
Position: Deputy-Secretary General
MUN Experience:

“My job in JMUN will be to lead the chairs towards a proper direction so that they can make you, the delegates, achieve and experience the most you can as a participant in this year’s conference. In addition, I provide guidance and help to any delegates and make sure all bodies of JMUN work appropriately. JMUN 2007 will be my fifth MUN experience; I have participated in almost all bodies of MUN: admin, delegate, chair and now Deputy Secretary General. JMUN might be the first MUN experience for most of you, and I can assure that at first it can be terrifying. However, you will see that once you have read your opening speech and met the other delegates in your committee, your confidence will grow and you will become passionate about discussing capital punishment, perhaps an environmental crisis, but overall passionate in pursuing a peaceful environment for all nations.”

Advice to delegates: Enhance your debating skills and become an excellent candidate for future conferences.

This year I participated in SAMUN (South American MUN) and THIMUN (The Hague MUN) and now I am participating as chair of the Human Rights in this JMUN. I can tell you all that these events are very good and help you think about the problems of the world and how to solve them; they help you develop your public speaking skills and help you socialize!”

Advice to Delegates: Enjoy and have a nice time!
