Closing Ceremony Brings
JMUN 2007 to an End
Junior Model United Nation 2007 has come to an end. Patricia Duran, the Deputy Secretary General, introduced the ceremony by calling on the Chairs to give speeches about their experiences during the conference. The Chairs of the Security Council were the first ones to speak. The three Chairs reviewed the debates that occurred in their respective committees. They also commended two delegates for being the best debaters.
After that, the Chairs of the ECOSOC committee came up to the podium and read their speeches. They mentioned that several delegates were offended by the USA delegation. They awarded a male delegate from Peru as best debater because he had impressed them. “He had the best points and surprised many of us.” The Chair finished off her speech by encouraging the students by telling them that they are the future. They are “Generation Try.”
Next were the Chairs of the Environment committee. They complimented their delegates by saying: “We are proud of them because every delegate participated and unified for one solution.”
After that, the Chairs of Human Rights went up to the podium. The Chairs pointed out that it was very complicated during the emergency issue phase of the conference, but it was great fun to be the Chairs of the committee.
Later on came the Chair of Peace Building committee. He was proud of every delegate. He mentioned that the delegation of Germany had called him “amargado” (grumpy) on the first day of the conference. Overall, he congratulated the delegates of Peace Building committee for being active delegates.
After hearing the speeches from all the chairs, Patricia Duran called on Rachel Callender, the Secretary-General. Although she was losing her voice, Rachel was eager to express her appreciation and gratitude towards the delegates and towards all those who made JMUN 2007 possible. She also mentioned a few of her unforgettable experiences during JMUN. Last, but not least, came Ms. Natalie Jeffers, the coordinator of JMUN. She thanked everyone and encouraged students to consider this event for the future.
The closing ceremony ended with certificates being presented to all of the delegates for having participated actively in JMUN 2007.
