Model united nations

What is the Model United Nations (MUN)? A model UN simulates the activities of a United Nations body, usually the Security Council or the General Assembly and its committees. Participants assume the roles of representatives of Member States (or Official Observers) and consider items from the UN system's vast agenda. Through role-playing, you can gain greater understanding of global issues and the complexities of the international system.

There are four Model United Nations activities at CIC and each plays an important role in our academic program.

 

Junior Model United Nations (JMUN)

This program is oriented to middle school students from grades 6 through 8. JMUN is a two-day conference held at CIC's campus. The JMUN experience prepares CIC students for IB history, economics, and geography course offerings in addition to providing a superb training ground for future MUN participation and leadership at the regional (SAMUN) and international (THIMUN) levels. Student delegations are accompanied by MUN Directors who often are their teachers or administrators actively involved in their school's MUN program. South American Model United Nations (SAMUN)

SAMUN is a four-day simulation of the United Nations for students in grades 9 through 12. It provides an excellent opportunity to expand one's MUN interests and skills. Not only does it provide a training ground for future MUN leadership, SAMUN also builds confidence, expertise and enthusiasm so necessary for students to engage successfully in THIMUN, a program to which our more outstanding MUN delegates and officers aspire to participate and contribute. The conference provides an excellent opportunity for delegates to develop their English, debating, research, negotiation, social, and interactive skills in a formal environment with other young people from around the world. The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN)

CIC annually sponsors a Model United Nations team that participates in The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN) conference in Holland held each January. The team is selected based on academic excellence, experience, and leadership demonstrated in the school's various MUN programs and activities as well as other important contributions in extracurricular areas.
