In April 2004, the secondary school of Colegio Internacional de Caracas held its first annual Creative Writing Competition. Contributions were organized into four categories:
Students from grades 6-12 were encouraged to participate in this contest, and many students submitted excellent work, which reflected the talent and diversity of CIC students. This first edition of Tales & Lies will include the work of those students who won first prize in each of the categories mentioned above. Many thanks are due to Jorge Gaviria, head of the modern languages department in CIC, Karen Massieu, Spanish teacher, and Kim Yates, formerly an English teacher at CIC who were responsible for running and judging the competition.
Tales & Lies, the online literary magazine of Colegio Internacional de Caracas, was started last year in order to provide a place for writers in the community of Colegio Internacional de Caracas to communicate their thoughts, dreams, worries, and musings with others. Watch for future editions during the 2004-05 school year, which will include dynamic and newspaper-like columns, such as “Best Work of the Quarter,” CIC current events, quotes from famous people (in CIC). Contribution from any member of the CIC community are welcome, and can be sent to losadaz@ciccaracas.com.ve.
Happy reading!

Faculty Advisor for Tales & Lies
Hey, and welcome to the Colegio International de Caracas literary magazine, Tales & Lies. The magazine was initially created as a means of expression for the CIC community that could reach out globally through the wonders of the Internet. And yet, I think its importance goes a little further than that. Writing is not only expression but a mean of revelation for the soul. This literary magazine is a space for CIC community members to share a piece of their minds with the rest of the community and the world. It is a way to know a little more about each other and hopefully to learn a little more about ourselves and the world we are living in, not only through our eyes, but through the eyes of others as well.
In this spirit, we welcome you all to our humble literary corner, Tales & Lies, and hope that the pieces, however inexperienced the authors might be, will enable you, at least for a split second, to see the world through their eyes. Or maybe just entertain you for a little while…who knows.
Well, without further ado,
Enjoy!
Thank you all, and happy reading!

Editor
PS: We also invite you all to contribute with whatever piece you
may have written that you like and would be willing to share with
us.
