Check out books tips for parents

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Here are some ideas that can help you at home before and after your child do the check out procedure in our Library.

1. Check with your child when his/her class goes to the school library and watch for a book come home.

2. Help your child to choose a special place at home to keep the books so that he/she will always know where it is.

3. Read your child’s book to him/her and encourage him/her to read it to you. Reading together promotes a love of reading that will last a lifetime.

4. Help your child  remember to bring the book back to school to his/her class.

Just as important, let your child see you read. Showing that you value reading will influence your child’s opinion about books and reading. Make that influence a positive one and visit us here at CIC Library. Parents are also more than welcome to check out books from the Elementary and / or Secondary Libraries.

Novelties in the Library

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Miss Silvia Davis, our Elementary Library Assistant will be giving the “Library Classes, as Miss Kathy will be doing her Masters in New York.

At the beginning of the school year we will have a new carpet, and work stations and you will find some changes oriented to give a more efficient and personal service.

This year the Library, jointly with teachers,  will be using the Lexile Measures, that is an educational tool that connects readers with materials using a common measure called Lexile that denotes both reading ability and text difficulty on the same scale. When used together, Lexile reader measures and Lexile text measures enable educators, parents ans students to select books and targeted reading materials that meet and challenge a reader’s unique abilities and interest.

Almost all our books have  a sticker that indicates its level.
