College Admissions

The college admissions process is the beginning of a new stage of life,
both for you and your family. It is an exciting time, full of possibilities,
but it can be overwhelming, because of the amount of information to absorb
in a short period of time and the importance of the decisions that must
be made. Your college counselor can be one of the best ongoing resources
you have. I am your ally throughout the entire admissions process. It
is in your best interest to visit with me regularly. I can:
- Review your academic record and suggest areas that need
improvement and recommend courses needed for specific post-secondary
programs.
- Begin the admissions process by helping you narrow your
list of potential college selections to a manageable "long list" of colleges,
and later to your operating "short list."
- Help with information on registering for and taking
standardized tests.
- Provide specific information on your high school performance.
Items such as rank-in-class, test scores and grade point average are
all
details that colleges ask for when a student applies.
- Help you find and complete the necessary forms for financial
assistance (FAFSA and CSS).
- Show you where to gather more information that deal
either with the admissions process or a specific college or university.
- Clarify or explain terms, concepts and experiences that
you may encounter during readings, campus visits, or interviews with
college
representatives.
- Write a letter of recommendation to colleges or universities,
complete secondary school and mid-year reports, assist you with, and
process
the final application packet.
- Offer the emotional support, warmth and encouragement
that you will need during one of the most important periods of your
life.
- Meet with your parents to help them understand the college
admissions process.
This webpage has information about planning for college, the university
college admission process, for both the U.S. and the U.K., upcoming
